Duchess Sabine of Württemberg

Sabine of Württemberg ( born July 2, 1549 Mömpelgard; † August 17, 1581 in Rotenburg ) was a Princess of Württemberg by marriage and the first Landgrave of Hesse- Kassel.

Life

Sabine was a daughter of the Duke Christoph of Württemberg (1515-1568) from his marriage to Anna Maria (1526-1589), daughter of Margrave George of Brandenburg -Ansbach.

They married on February 11, 1566 in Marburg Landgraf Wilhelm IV of Hesse -Kassel, whose brother was married already with Sabine's older sister Hedwig and the she had met at William's negotiations with her father. The wedding was celebrated very complex.

The countess looked after the welfare of the country and donated the free Hofapotheke in Kassel, which served not only to supply the court but to the entire population of Kassel.

Sabine and William's marriage has been described as happy. Wilhelm certain Sabine in a first testament, in the event of his premature death, as regent of the country for the eldest son Moritz, but she died before her husband in 1581 and a new testament explained William his son for an adult.

Sabine is buried in the church of St. Martin in Kassel.
