Duchy of Lucca

The Duchy of Lucca was a small state in central Italy that existed from 1805 to 1815 and again after the Congress of Vienna to 1847. The territory emerged from the Lucchese Republic. Later it was annexed by the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, for its part, claimed by the absence of an heir apparent to the throne.

After France had been redesigned under Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804 to Empire, this led to profound changes in the French subsidiary republics of Italy. After the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy (formed from the Italian, formerly Cisalpine Republic ) and the coronation of Napoleon in Milan in May 1805 clearly that the dependent of Napoleon's power Lucchesi Republic had to adapt to the new realities monarchical their previous form of government. After holding a controlled plebiscite, the Corsican nobles Pasquale Baciocchi a sister of Napoleon, the prince Felix I of Lucca and Piombino, was married to Elisa Bonaparte levied. The new monarchical constitution of the Principality of Lucca came into force on 27 June 1805.

The first prince from 1815 was Charles Louis of Bourbon (Carlo Ludovico di Bourbon ), which was awarded as compensation for the loss of the Duchy of Parma this principality. After his death, however, the Principality fell against the resistance of Parma, in Tuscany.

It was chosen a horizontal red - yellow flag. At times, they also introduced the Karl crest.
