Duck Baker

Duck Baker ( born July 30, 1949 in Washington, DC as Richard Royal Baker IV ) is an American fingerstyle guitarist.

Life

Baker grew up in Richmond, Virginia and moved early seventies to San Francisco. He combines in his playing many different genres such as ragtime, blues, country, gospel, Cajun, bluegrass, Celtic music, ballads and jazz, swing, New Orleans jazz and free jazz. His solo recordings were mainly influenced by Thelonious Monk, Herbie Nichols and Randy Weston. His album " Spinning Song " with pieces of Nichols has been acclaimed by various journals.

In addition to his solo career and played play Baker with different musicians, so with the Fiddlespieler Kieran Fahy, trombonist Roswell Rudd and guitarist Woody Mann. With the violinist Carla Kihlstedt and clarinetist Ben Goldberg he performs as a trio.
