Dudu Tucci

Eduardo da Silva Tucci, short Dudu Tucci ( born May 5, 1955 in São Paulo) is a Brazilian musician, who has lived in Berlin since the mid- 1980s. In addition to his extensive CD production he has earned his teaching recognition, with whom he has much influence on German and European samba scene.

Dudu Tucci grew up in a family of musicians, drumming already as a teenager in Umbanda ceremonies. He studied classical percussion, flute and musicology at the Conservatory Brooklin Paulista in São Paulo. Extensive travels through South America as well as the study of Afro- Brazilian rhythms expanded his musical horizons.

1978 Dudu Tucci was invited to perform as a percussionist in the symphony orchestra in his hometown. At the same time he met the Brazilian dancer Ismael Ivo, with whom he built the experimental Black Dance Group. After the collaboration with the composer Arrigo Barnabé Tucci followed an invitation to the 1982 Jazz Fest in Berlin, where he has lived ever since. In 1987 he was a guest musician on the world tour by Reinhard Flat Ischlers Megadrums project.

In 1990, Dudu Tucci released his first CD, which has since nine more followed. Among them are two who devote themselves entirely to the music of Candomblé or Umbanda of.

As a composer, he combines modern with traditional styles of Brazilian music, but also takes out Brazilian currents on. Dudu Tucci plays all percussion instruments on his CDs himself, sings and plays the flute. Especially on the pandeiro and the Conga he is one of the most outstanding musicians. He is accompanied often by guest vocalists, bassists, guitarists and saxophonists. Emphasis is laid on the quality of his lyrics. Also as a producer Tucci works, he has a CD Cajónes Cuban musicians brought out ( Iré Otonoguá: Cajónes para los Orichas ).

Together with the dancer and choreographer Murah Soares is Dudu Tucci artistic director of the Bloco Afoxé Loni, one of the largest groups at the Berlin Carnival of Cultures. Another band project are the Brasil Power Drums. In addition, Dudu Tucci occurs with an extensive solo program and works with several dancers together.

As a teacher he has made a name for itself with the Raízes do Brasil project in which he has taught the majority of the Samba teachers in Germany and Europe. With Tiago de Oliveira Pinto 1992 he brought the textbook and Samba in Brazil Sambistas out.
