Duh (Album)

Occupation

Duh is the debut album by the California punk rock band Lagwagon. It was released on October 1, 1992 as the first album on Fat Wreck Chords.

Cover

The cover shows a stocky boy in blue. He sits in a big purple chair and staring with open mouth and eyes with twisted into spirals ( in Comics used as an indication for hypnosis) on the TV. In his hand he is holding a canned drink on which the suffix "- ke " (perhaps "Coke " ) can be seen. On top of the cover is the self- drawn band name in capital letters. On the back you can see the track list and next to a black and white photo of the band members who (presumably the vehicle on which the band's name is based ) sitting next to a big wide car on the curb.

Album

Prior to the 2 -song EP was released Tragic Vision / Angry Days, which contains the first recorded songs of Duh and tell of the Fat Wreck Chords that they do not even even have a recording of it.

Duh is the first album that was released on the label of Fat Mike, the singer of the band NOFX, Fat Wreck Chords. The album was recorded and mixed in three days in West Beach Studio in Hollywood by Fat Mike. To date, every album by Lagwagon at Fat Wreck Chords was published.

Most of the songs have a fast, typical for Lagwagon skate punk rhythms. An exception is, for example, the song Bad Moon Rising ( A cover of the band Creedence Clearwater Revival ) in the mix elements of the country and a very fast skate punk. Even a cover of the theme song of the popular animated series Inspector Gadget is included.

From Duh a limited edition of only 524 pieces appeared on colored vinyl.

Reception

Mike DaRonco of Allmusic awarded four out of five stars. It keeps the music for the lyrics and structurally ready for a NOFX - clone ( " Lyrically and Structurally, the songwriting Has More of a mature edge" ) and assigns Duh one as an early work of the band, which indicates the still following work ( " it is a hint of better things to come ").
