Duiliu Zamfirescu

Duiliu Zamfirescu ( born October 30, 1858 in Plăineşti, today Dumbrăveni, Vrancea County, † June 3, 1922, Agapia, Neamt county ) was a Romanian politician, diplomat, lawyer, writer and vice-president of the Romanian Academy. In March 1920, he was Romanian foreign minister.

Life

After attending primary and secondary schools in Focsani he went to the Matei Basarab - school to Bucharest. He then studied law. After receiving his diploma in 1880 Zamfirescu took a magistrate in Hârşova and later in Targoviste. Zamfirescu was also active as a writer. He wrote poetry, short stories and plays. With his most important work, the five-part cycle Romanul Comăneştenilor (1894-1910), he designed the first great epic portrait of Romanian society. He then until 1906 worked as a diplomat in Rome. 1920 Zamfirescu Romanian foreign minister. He died the same year in Agapia.
