Duke of Cadaval ( Duque de Cadaval ) is a title that is performed in a younger branch of the House of Braganza.

History

Álvaro de Bragança, Lord of Cadaval was a younger brother of Ferdinand II, 3rd Duke of Braganza, both grandsons of Alfonso of Braganza and Brites Pereira, the heiress of the Portuguese Nuno Álvares Pereira Konnetables, the richest nobles in Portugal after the king. Alvaro married in 1479 Filippa de Melo - Villena, Lady of Ferreira, their descendants took the surname Melo, later the family name Alvares Pereira de Melo.
