Duke of Medinaceli

Duke of Medinaceli was a Spanish noble title, which was created by a registration increase from the title of Count of Medinaceli in the 14th century. First title winner was Luis de la Cerda y de la Vega.

History

Ferdinand de la Cerda, son of King Alfonso X of Castile (1253-1275), laid claim to the throne of his father; the question remained unsettled until the 14th century, to the heir of Isabella de la Cerda, Bernal de Foix, the title of Count of Medinaceli received. Later, Queen Isabella I brought the Count to Duke.
