Duke of Mercœur

The rule Mercœur was raised in 1659 to the Duchy Mercœur. She lay in the Auvergne or later Haute-Loire. The main town of Seigneurie and the Duchy was the place Mercœur

Mercœur was from the end of the 9th century to 1321 in the hands of the same family, which was succeeded by the Dauphin of Auvergne. Their heirs, were the Dukes of Bourbon, who gave Mercœur to the Counts of Montpensier, her younger line. Gilbert de Bourbon- Montpensier was the rule of his daughter René as a dowry, which Mercœur went to the house Châtenois. Nicholas of Lorraine, Lord of Mercœur, a son of Duke Charles III. of Lorraine, was raised in 1569 to the Duke of Mercœur. By another marriage the Bourbons regained the duchy.

When Louis II Joseph, duc de Vendôme et de Mercœur, 1712 died, the king 's brother Philippe refused to follow, as this was allowed as Grand Prior of the Order of Malta have no possessions, and took the Duchy itself.
