Duke Pius August in Bavaria

Pius August in Bavaria ( born August 2, 1786 in Landshut, † August 3, 1837 in Bayreuth) was Duke of Bavaria from the line of Palatinate -Zweibrücken - Birkenfeld to Gelnhausen.

Life

Pius August was the third child of Duke Wilhelm in Bavaria (1752-1837) from his marriage to Maria Anna (1753-1824), the daughter of the Count Palatine and Duke Frederick Michael of Zweibrücken- Birkenfeld.

Pius August was royally Bavarian Major General and holder of the Infantry Regiment No. 8 in Bayreuth. Neither Pius August, and his wife had great influence in the education of her only child, Maximilian, the grandfather Wilhelm monitored. Pius was considered choleric misanthrope, the people attacked on the street and mauling to unconsciousness, which resulted in multiple stays in prison.

In 1815 he was made an honorary member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. He died on August 3, 1837 at the age of 51 years in Bayreuth, where he had lived withdrawn the bulk of his life, and was buried at Kloster Banz.

Marriage and issue

Pius August married on 26 May 1807 in Brussels Amalie Luise ( 1789-1823 ), daughter of Duke Louis of Arenberg Maria, with whom he had a son:
