Dumbarton Oaks Conference

The Conference of Dumbarton Oaks was a conference of experts during the Second World War. It took place from 21 August to 7 October 1944 in the villa Dumbarton Oaks in the U.S. capital Washington, DC place and is named after the venue in the Georgetown district.

Participants were the United States, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union and the Republic of China.

Conference theme was the development of the United Nations from the idea of ​​the League of Nations, but including America. At the conference, the first draft of the Charter of the United Nations was drafted. In the course of several meetings, the participants agreed on the objectives, structure and functioning of the new world organization.

The following institutions date back to the Conference: The General Assembly, the Security Council, the Secretariat and the International Court in The Hague.
