Dumitru Prunariu

Dumitru Dorin Prunariu ( born September 27, 1952 in Orasul Stalin, today Braşov ) is a Romanian pilot, diplomat and former cosmonaut. He is the first and only Romanian in space.

Training

After Dumitru Prunariu 1971 his studies successfully completed at the School of Physics and Mathematics in Braşov, he studied aeronautical engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, where he in 1976 acquired the degree of civil engineer aerospace engineering. He worked out at the Industria Aeronáutica Română ( IAR ) in Brasov, which specializes in combat aircraft. At the same time, he attended the military academy of the Romanian air forces, so that Prunariu 1977 pilot was.

Spaceman activity

The aeronautical engineer and pilot of the Romanian Air Force was included as a cosmonaut in the Intercosmos program on March 1, 1978. In 1981 he flew on Soyuz 40 to Salyut 6 as a member of the eleventh visiting team this orbital station, where he held the position of a research cosmonaut. With the landing on May 22, 1981 resigned from Prunariu from the cosmonaut corps.
