Dun Ringill

Dun Ringill ( Scottish Gaelic, German Fort at the gorge ) is an Iron Age plant at Kirkibost on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The tradition connects it to the residence of the Chief of MacKinnon clan, whose fourth Chief Findanus moved to 900 AD (also called Dun Acainn or Dunakin ) in the near Moll Castle.

From Dun Ringill only parts of the foundation walls are obtained with the access. The slightly irregular shape that adapts to the promontory, makes it almost to a Broch or semi- Broch and points to the problems that has the technical language with such a small fortified places. Access has a guard cell and the post holes for a door lock. In the wall there is a vaulted by corbels cell. In the late Middle Ages, the plant was expanded to a Promontory Fort. A trench was dug on the promontory, the original passage was extended and two rectangular buildings were built within the ramparts.

A song by the rock band Jethro Tull is called Dun Ringill. He was released in 1979 on the album Stormwatch.
