Duncan Free

Duncan Setth Free ( born May 25, 1973 in Hobart, Tasmania ) is an Australian rower who won the 2008 Olympic gold medal in the coxless pairs.

Duncan Free is born in Tasmania but lives in Sydney. Free belonged for many years to the root of the Australian double quad. In the 1996 Olympics he won with the sculls bronze. In 1997 he received at the World Rowing Championships bronze in the double sculls. In 1999 he again won World Championship bronze, this time back in the quadruple sculls. After finishing fourth in the quadruple sculls at the 2000 Olympic Games at home in Sydney succeeded no more medal win. At the 2004 Olympic Games Free missed the Australian sculls the finals.

Then Duncan Free joined the rowing strap and rose to Drew Ginn in the coxless pairs. 2006 at Dorney Lake at Eton and at the 2007 Rowing Course near Munich, they won two consecutive world title. In Beijing Duncan Free won at the Summer Olympic Games in 2008 his first Olympic gold medal for Drew Ginn, it was the third.

Throughout his career, Free was seven times Australian Champion in One.
