Duncan Keith

Duncan Keith (* July 16, 1983 in Winnipeg, Manitoba ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He currently plays for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League on the position of the defender.

Career

Keith learned the hockey by his father, who also coached him. After his family was initially moved from his hometown of Winnipeg to Fort Frances, Ontario and then to Penticton in British Columbia, he played there at the age of 16 years, two years from 1999 to 2001 for the Penticton Panthers in the British Columbia Hockey League. In his last year there, he was honored as the best defender of the league and called to the First All -Star team in the league. In the summer of 2001, the Canadian team at the University of Michigan State University joined them. After the first season, the young defender in the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 was selected in the second round to 54th place by the Chicago Blackhawks. However, he did not change immediately in the organization of the Black Hawks, but remained another year at junior level. By the end of 2002, he played at Michigan State before he signed a contract with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League signed on 27 December 2002, which returned to British Columbia.

In the summer of 2003, Keith finally signed a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, but the seasons 2003/ 04 and 2004/ 05 first spent at the Norfolk Admirals, the former AHL farm team the Blackhawks. For the 2005/06 season he was able to work out a space in the root cadres of NHL teams in the season preparatory training camp and heard this on since then and always continued to develop. In the season 2007/ 08 he was nominated for the NHL All-Star Game. In the 2009/10 season he won the Stanley Cup with Chicago. He also won the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the best defender of the league and was called to the NHL First All -Star Team.

Internationally

Keith first played at the World Championships in 2008 for his home country. There he won after a final defeat by Russia the silver medal. Likewise, he stood at the Olympic Winter Games 2010 in Vancouver in the squad. In this tournament, he won the gold medal. Also in 2014 he was with the Canadian National Team Olympic champion.
