Duncanville is a city in Dallas County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The town is a suburb of Dallas, located west of the intersection of Interstate 20 with U.S. Highway 67 in the south of the county in the central northeast Texas.

History

The settlement of this area began in 1845, as a native of Illinois Crawford Trees purchased several thousand acres south of Camp Dallas. 1855 Little Bethel Male and Female School was built, which also served as a church until 1881. 1880 reached the Chicago, Texas and Mexican Central Railway the settlement and built a railway station, which was named after one of the board members of the Railway Company Duncan switch. 1882 resulting town was renamed in Duncanville. In case of fire, the majority of the town was destroyed in 1884. At the beginning of the 20th century the number of inhabitants increased from 113 to over 300 in 1933. During the second half of the 20th century, Duncanville developed into a suburb of Dallas.

According to the census of 2000, there were 36 081 people in 12,896 households and 10,239 families. The population density was 1233.9 people per km ². The racial the population was composed of 63.90 % White, 24.76 % African American, 0.32 % Native American, 1.99 % Asian, 0.09 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 6.83 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 2.11% were of mixed descent, and 15.30% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 12,896 households, 38.4 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.3 % were married couples living together. 16.1% were single mothers and 20.6 % were non-families. 17.6 % of all households were single-person households and 5.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.15 persons to.

28.1% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.5 % from 18 to 24, 27.7 % 25-44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.6 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 90.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 85.0 males.

The median income for a household was $ 51,654, and the median income for a family $ 57,064. Males have a median income of $ 39,199 versus $ 30,145 for females.
