Dundee Hills AVA

The hills of the Dundee Hills ( recognized since 2004) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of Oregon, the first wines of 1960 were there in mid- terraced. The protected designation of origin (American Viticultural Area ) is part of the larger Willamette Valley AVA and is situated south-west of Portland near the town of Dundee in Yamhill County Administrative Region of the north- western Oregon. The chain of hills runs along an aligned north-south line on the west side of the Willamette River, which is shielded by the Coast Range before heavy rains and storms. The Dundee Hills are also called Red Hills due to its red soil, the soil is rich in iron.
