Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council

Dungannon and South Tyrone ( Tír Eoghain agus Irish Dún Geanainn Thea ) is one of the 26 Districts in Northern Ireland and includes a large part of the traditional county of Tyrone, and a small part of the county Armagh. In the district, which was formed in 1973 and has the status of a Borough, adjacent to the headquarters Dungannon Coalisland, among other places, Augher, Clogher, Fivemiletown, Ballygawley, Caledon, Aughnacloy, Benburb and Moy. From 1973 to 1999 was the only District Dungannon.

In the District live about 56,400 inhabitants; as well call itself Catholic 60 %, Protestant as about 38 %.

Traffic

The M1 Motorway from Belfast leads to Dungannon and continues into the highway A4. The highway A5 from Omagh to Monaghan in the Republic of Ireland crosses the A4 near Ballygawley. A railway connection does not exist.

Tourism

Coalisland has a local history museum ( Cornmill Heritage Centre ) and at Carnteel remembers a house on the ancestors of U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant. To the east of Dungannon is the Peatlands Country Park, west of the Parkanaur Forest Park.
