The Dunleith Township is one of 23 townships in Jo Daviess County in the northwest corner of the U.S. state of Illinois.

Geography

The Dunleith Township is located in the northwest corner of Illinois at the intersection of three states of Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa. The Dunleith Township is located on the eastern shore of the Mississippi River opposite the city of Dubuque in Iowa.

The Dunleith Township is located at 42 ° 28'42 " north latitude and 90 ° 36'48 " west longitude and extending over 30.02 km ², spread over 24.08 km ² land and 5.94 km ² water surface.

The Dunleith Township is located in the extreme northwest of the Jo Daviess County and borders the following townships and neighboring towns:

Traffic

By Dunleith Township runs the the Illinois section of the Great River Road forming U.S. Highway 20, which on the Illinois State Route 35 meets here. The Julien Dubuque Bridge crosses the Mississippi River to Iowa.

Along the Mississippi River, a railway line, which is used by several operators simultaneously.

The nearest airport is approximately 20 km south west in Iowa Dubuque Regional Airport.

Population

In the census in 2010, the township had 3820 inhabitants.

Within the Dunleith Township lives about half the population of individual homes to community- free soil. The other half lives in East Dubuque, the only autonomous community ( with a status of "City" ).
