Dunlop Orange Bowl

The Orange Bowl is a World Junior Grade-A tennis tournament, which is held annually in December at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, United States, of the International Tennis Federation. It has a great reputation and is one of the most important tennis tournaments for juniors and juniors in the world.

History

The Orange Bowl Tennis Championships 1947 were held at the Flamingo Tennis Center in Miami Beach for the first time for girls and boys ages 16 and 18 years, and held for more 51 years here. Was launched by the tournament Eddie Herr, who wanted to bring a winter tournament to South Beach for his tennis -playing daughter Suzanne.

1983, during the heyday of the tournament, the professional Abel Holtz Stadium was built with a seating capacity of 9000 spectators at Flamingo Park. During the 1990s, the system of the Flamingo Park Tennis Center fell for bad entertainment and was moved the tournament in 1999 to the plant to Key Biscayne, where nowadays the WTA Miami the ladies and the Miami Masters takes place the men.

The following well-known male and female players have won at this tournament: Chris Evert, Nicolás Pereira, Justine Henin, Horst Skoff (2x), Katarina Srebotnik, Stefan Edberg, Tommy Haas, Roger Federer, Marc Rosset and Manuela Maleewa. Mary Joe Fernandez is still the only player who was successful in all age groups 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 years.
