Dunum

Dunam is a municipality in the district Esen Witt mouth in Lower Saxony. The community had about 1,150 inhabitants in 2004 and covers an area of ​​26.83 square kilometers. The municipality is bordered to the east by the city Witt mouth and on the south by the districts of Langenfeld and Middels the city Aurich.

History

In dunums according to the legend of King Fries Radbod to be buried in the so-called Radbodsberg.

In the village dunams there is a brick church from the 13th century. The first written mention of the town took place in 1420. The beginnings of the Reformation in Harlingerland go back to the period after 1525, when Ricardo Hicco began in dunums to preach according to an evangelical church service.

The municipality also includes the hamlet of Brill with a larger settlement from the Roman imperial period. In addition, the municipality of the grave of the wife of Brill was discovered from the Bronze Age, which is considered one of the most important finds of this period in East Frisia.

Parish council

The Council of the Municipality consists of 11 dunums Women Council and councilors. This is the set number for the member community of integrated municipality with a population of 1001-2000 people. The 11 Women Council and councilors are elected by a municipal election for five years. The current term of office began on 1 November 2011.

The council chose the Alderman John Janhsen ( FWDB ) for honorary mayor for the current parliamentary term.

The turnout in the local elections of 2011 was 58.55 %, well above the Lower Saxony average of 52.5 %. For comparison - in the previous local elections on 10 September 2006, the turnout was 62.20%.

Coat of arms

The municipal coat of arms is divided by Göpel section; front in blue with a silver bar, topped with two red hearts, silver back in a blue cross, below in red three silver spikes.
