Duo Duo

Duo Duo (Chinese多多, Pinyin Duo Duo ) is the stage name of the Chinese writer Li Shizheng (Chinese栗 世 征, Pinyin Lì Shizheng; * 1951 in Beijing, People's Republic of China). He currently lives on the island of Hainan in the tropical south of China.

Life

His first lyrics he wrote as a young man in the early 1970s and secretly deposited during the Cultural Revolution. In many of his early poems he sets out on a knowledgeable and original way critical of the Cultural Revolution apart. Duo Duo is with the authors Bei Dao, Gu Cheng, Mang Ke, and Yang Lian Haizi the literary group Menglong Shī朦胧诗, Eng. " Misty Poets " (朦胧诗), dt: " Transfigured poets", also known as Menglong lyric or hermetic seal. There you will find references to European poetry, for example, Charles Baudelaire, Marina Tsvetaeva and Sylvia Plath. After Duo Duo had become a witness to the 1989 massacre in Tiananmen Square, he returned to his home country for more than a decade back and lived in the UK, Canada and the Netherlands. On his return from the Netherlands to China in 2004, he was honored and celebrated by the young literary world of China. Duo Duo currently resides on the island of Hainan in the tropical south China and teaches literature at the University of Hainan. In his work migration is now discussed.

Work

Some of his writings have been translated into English. Including the Verssammlung " Looking Out from Death: From the Cultural Revolution to Tiananmen Square" ( 1989) and " The Boy Who Catches Wasps " (2002) and a collection of short stories under the title "Snow Plain" (2010).

Awards

In 2010, Duo Duo was awarded the prestigious, endowed with $ 50,000, American Neustadt Prize for Literature.

The American author and sinologist Gregory B. Lee has many of Duo Duo's poems translated into American English and also written about the work of Duo Duo, most recently in "China 's Lost Decade".
