Duplex printing

Duplex printing (English duplex printing) is a method of printing on the front and back of paper. It is supported by many printers and multifunction devices. Because the English name, the method also is called duplex printing, but this can lead to confusion with the duplex printing also called two- color printing. Using double-sided printing, paper printing resources and costs are reduced. This requires distinguishing the automatic printing of a duplex unit and printing by manually turning the paper.

For smaller home appliances and office equipment, the automatic two-sided printing is performed by the paper is turned to the printing on the front in the device and then prints the second side. Some larger pressure devices that have two printing units simultaneously print on front and back without having to turn the paper in between.

In the manual two-sided printing causes the printer driver that first all the front pages of the print job is printed, the user then turns the paper back in the paper tray and then all backs are printed.

The right page margin setting on front and back - for example, for a wider binding margin (see the stitching) on the left or top end of paper - is observed for duplex printing. Analogous to the two-sided printing, there are also two-sided scanning (see: Automatic Document Feeder ).

Criticism

Some inkjet printer for duplex printing of monochrome black templates ( such as typical text documents) in addition to black ink with colored ink. The image then acts brighter than the single-sided printing, and the ink cost per printed page can increase significantly.
