Duplin County, North Carolina

Duplin County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Kenansville, which was named after General James Kenan. The County is located in the USA # 2 in the pig and pork production.

Geography

The County is located in the central southeastern North Carolina, is about 60 km from the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of ​​2121 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Wayne County, Lenoir County, Jones County, Onslow County, Pender County and Sampson County.

Duplin County is divided into 13 townships: Albertson, Cypress Creek, Faison, Glisson, Iceland Creek, Kenansville, Limestone, Magnolia, Rockfish, Rose Hill, Smith, Warsaw and Wolfscrape.

History

Duplin County was formed in 1749 from parts of New Hanover County. It was named after Thomas Hay, Lord Duplin, later 9th Earl of Kinnoull.
