Geography

Geographical location

The wine and resort Durbach with a district area of 2,633 acres at the Baden Wine Street, located in the picturesque foothills between Rhine valley and the Black Forest, about seven kilometers from the district town of Offenburg. Nestled in vineyards and a total of 42 side valleys to Durbach extends along the eponymous creek. His rippling accompanied at 14 kilometers from the district of the mountains with the highest elevation Mooskopf (873 m ) to the picturesque hamlet Ebersweier (200 m).

Community structure

The municipality is divided into the district Durbach 2664 inhabitants in the district Ebersweier ( 1243 inhabitants), which was incorporated in 1973 in the course of municipal reform. At the town of Durbach include 47 villages, hamlets, tines, farms and houses.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Appenweier, on the east by the town of Oberkirch, in the south to the city of Gengenbach and Ohlsbach and to the west by the circle city of Offenburg.

History

Durbach formerly belonged to the district of Offenburg, the rose in 1973 in the new Ortenaukreis. On 1 January 1973, until then independent municipality Ebersweier was incorporated.

The municipal election held on 7 June 2009, with a voter turnout of 62.0 % ( - 0.5 ) the following result:

The SPD with two seats previously is no longer represented in the current council.

Management

With the city of Offenburg and the communities Hohberg, Ortenberg and Schutterwald the community has in administrative matters.

Mayor

On 7 October 2001, the native Sicilian Castelvetrano Toni won the mayoral election against the then incumbent Wolfgang Pühler. Since December 20, 2001 Vetrano has held the office of mayor. In the election on 27 September 2009, he was confirmed in office.

Culture and sights

The series of events culture in the castle offers throughout the year a varied program. In addition to author readings, concerts almost any style of music on offer. The Fall Festival at Schloss Staufenberg (second weekend in October ) is dedicated to a different theme each year. 2006 ( 7/8 October 2006) was titled 200 years Baden. 2007, the 225th anniversary of the Klingelberger Riesling was celebrated.

The Staufenburg clinic offers patients, but also visitors a year-round cultural program with concerts and exhibitions.

Theater

On two occasions (2002 and 2005) was Staufenberg Castle backdrop of an open air theater piece.

Sculpture Park

South of the Staufenburg Clinic of sprawling sculpture park Durbach is located with 73 works by international sculptor.

Economy and infrastructure

The economic foundation of the church is based on the three pillars of viticulture / agriculture, tourism and specialist clinics. The structure is supplemented by the diversity of around 100 businesses, most of which five to 15 employees employ. Durbach is committed to its own resources. Two bakeries, two butchers, food retail, hairdressers, electrical trade, doctors and pharmacy complete the infrastructure.

Agriculture

The wine and fruit-growing is one of the main sources of income Durbacher. The layers are Ortenau in the wine region of Baden. Since the 12th century ( traced back to 1180 ) is cultivated wine in Durbach. In the Durbacher wine cooperative in 2003 there were more than 80 full- time farmers and around 200 part-time winemaker. The 11 private wineries are among the most awarded wine producers in Germany and Europe. Durbach is the wine-growing town with most private vineyards in Baden -Wuerttemberg. At the same time Durbach is currently the only wine village in which all 12 wine producers in one place to offer their products ( Durbacher Lädele ). The Weingut Graf Wolff Metternich considered the oldest winery in Durbach and the Ortenau. The wineries Männle Heinrich and Andreas Laible have been elected into the circle of the 20 best European vineyards in the world since 2006. Durbach is the place in the world with the largest contiguous acreage savagnin rose ( Red Traminer, in Ortenau also called Clevner ). This vine will continue in the Holy Stone / Alsace (France), Visperterminen ( Switzerland ), Klöch ( Austria ) and grown Tramin ( Tremeno ) / Italy.

Tourism

The Weingut Schloss Staufenberg is privately owned by Max Margrave of Baden. It sits as a landmark high above Durbach and attracts visitors from all over the world. From the castle terrace on the 383 -meter-high mountain peak you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of forest-clad Black Forest hills, vineyards, lying at the feet place up to the Upper Rhine Plain and the Strasbourg Cathedral. Staufenberg Castle is easily accessible via hiking trails and a road. Direct selling in the castle estate, wine tasting (reservation required), wine bar on the patio and in the wine bar are well worth a visit. Several times a year, castle tours are offered.

Rehabilitation

The Staufenburg Clinic in Durbach is a clinic of internal medicine with the departments of diabetology, oncology / urology and rheumatology / orthopedics.

Focus of Clinic are on the treatment of metabolic diseases, especially type 1 and type 2 diabetes, tumors of the kidneys and urinary tract and diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

Schools and kindergartens

There are in Durbach a primary and secondary school, the Staufenberg school. There is also a communal, a church and a nursery in free sponsorship.
