Dry Durbeke - creek bed about 100 m before the confluence with the Beke in Altenbeken

Course

The stream originates directly at the main ridge of the Eggegebirge, about 1 km north of Kempen at an altitude of 374 m above sea level. NN. From here, the creek flows primarily in a southwesterly direction. It flows through Kempen, southwest of the town of Bach seeps underground, so that the underflow is located in a typical dry valley. About 2.3 kilometers west of Altenbeken opens the Durbeke to 205 m above sea level. NN on the right side in the Beke.

On its 8.7 km long road of Bach overcomes a difference in altitude of 169 m, corresponding to an average bed slope of 19.4 ‰. The Durbeke drains a 10.95 km ² large catchment area over Beke, Lippe and Rhine to the North Sea.

Water management

The Durbeke leads only in the upper reaches of water all year round, but mainly in the lower middle reaches. A continuous water flow, however, it is only after particularly long-lasting heavy rain or after the snow melts.
