Geography

Geographical location

Durlangen is located on the eastern edge of the Swabian Alb approximately six kilometers north of Schwäbisch Gmünd, is a natural area for Welzheimer forest.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Spraitbach, on the northeast by Ruppertshofen, to the east by Täferrot, to the south of Schwäbisch Gmünd and Mutlangen and to the west by Alfdorf in the Rems -Murr -Kreis.

Community structure

The municipality comprises the villages Durlangen, Tanau and room stream, the hamlets Mooswiese, the courts Amandus mill, Bruck Acker, Gehau and Karrenstrietle and the houses Hummelbühl, Leinhaus, Leinmühle and nozzle blade.

History

Durlangen belonged since the early 19th century to the upper office Gmünd, which later became the district of Schwäbisch Gmünd. When it was resolved in the course of district reform in 1973, the community came to the new Ostalb.

Religions

The Catholic St. Cyriac 's Church in Room creek was built in 1853.

In the district Tanau is the hermitage of Santa Anna. Tower and nave are Romanesque period, the choir is late Gothic. Mainly because of the effigy of St. Anne and a Pieta from the 15th century, the St. Anne's Chapel, the goal of many pilgrims.

The municipality is a member of the local government association Swabian Forest, headquartered in Mutlangen.

Coat of arms

Blazon: In red on green Dreienberg a silver fir.

The coat of arms image refers to the forest wealth of the Durlanger district. The colors silver and red were the coat of arms of the former imperial city of Schwäbisch Gmünd removed and refer to the Gmuender patricians who owned land in the community.

The municipality flag is white and red.

On September 19, 1957, the municipality was awarded by the Ministry of Economy Baden -Württemberg which is now valid coat of arms and the flag.

Education

In Durlangen there is a primary school, the nearest secondary school, junior high school and high school ( with Werkrealschule ), located in Mutlangen. Other secondary schools are available in Schwäbisch Gmünd.
