Durlston Country Park

Durlston Country Park is a 1.13 square kilometer ( 280 acres ) large country park and nature reserve and it extends along the coast of the Isle of Purbeck.

Durlston Bay and Durlston Country Park lie south of Swanage, on the English Channel, on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, on the south coast of England. The park is located about 12 km south of the large cities Poole and Bournemouth.

In 1887 George Burt built a small castle on the hill Durlston Head over Swanage. He also had the Great Globe, build a 40 -ton globe, three meters is engraved in diameter, in the world map according to the findings of 1880.

Swanage lighthouse was built on the Rock, Anvil Point, in 1880. George Burt Tilly Whim Caves opened in 1887 as a tourist attraction for his country seat Durlston.

Swanage has a long history quarry, along the cliffs to the south. Many of the fracture surroundings and the loading docks of these quarries are now seen even within the Durlston Country Park. The quarries were the largest suppliers of Portland Limestone and Purbeck stone. The Durlston Country Park is part of the Jurassic Coast (a World Heritage Site).
