Durrës District

The circle Durrës (Albanian: Rrethi i Durresit ) is one of the 36 administrative districts of Albania. The circle with an area of 433 km ² belongs to the same Qark. He has 202 971 inhabitants (2011 ), where the local authorities even specify 334 871 inhabitants (2009 ). He is one of the Albanian districts with the greatest population density. It was named after the main town of Durres district.

Geography

The circle Durres is located on the Adriatic coast of central Albania. The area is mostly flat. Hills by dragging the southeast and the whole western county boundary. The plains near the coast were partially swamped until after the Second World War. Today this area is used for agriculture and is well developed. Consequently, here many internal migrants have settled from mountain regions of Albania. The circle is traversed from the southeast to the northwest from the river ores, which opens into a large bay ( Gjiri i Lalzit ). In the north of the bay is closed by a narrow peninsula, which expires in Cape Kepi i Rodonit.

The majority of the population lives in Durres, which expands rapidly and a few kilometers east situated town Shijak. The remaining areas are still very rural.

Economy

A large part of the economy of Albania focuses on the corridor Tirana - Durres, Durres with the covers next to the only international airport in the country and the main harbor. Durres is a traffic hub of the country. Because the hills approaching in the Bay of Durrës to the coast, this is a bottleneck in the north -south traffic in Albania.
