Dusky bushbaby

The Brillengalago ( Galago matschiei, formerly G. inustus ) is a primate of the family of galagos ( Galagonidae ).

Features

Brillengalagos reach a body length 15-20 centimeters, to which another 20 to 28 centimeters long tail comes. The weight is 170 to 250 grams. Their fur is colored on the back in a dark red-gray, the belly is lighter. The eyes which are enlarged as Adaptation to the active lifestyle, surrounded by eye-catching dark circles. The ears are also enlarged, they are hairless and very mobile.

Distribution and habitat

Brillengalagos live in the north east of the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as in the neighboring regions of Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Their habitat is tropical primary and secondary forests.

Way of life

These primates, like all Galagos nocturnal, during the day they sleep in nests or tree cavities leaves. At night, they go looking for food, while they move vertically continuous climbing and jumping and keep more on in the lower layers of the trees. Their diet consists mainly of insects and tree sap.

Endangering

In parts of its range Brillengalagos are affected by deforestation, overall the style but frequently and IUCN " not at risk " ( least concern ).
