Dustin Farnum

Dustin Lancy Farnum ( born May 27, 1874 in Hampton Beach, Rockingham County, New Hampshire; † July 3, 1929 in New York City, New York) was an American film and theater actor.

Life

Dustin Farnum grew up as the oldest of three brothers in the state of Maine, where he at the age of 15 years dropped out of school in order to fully concentrate on his passion for acting. With his brothers William and Marshall, who also celebrated successes later as an actor, Dustin Farnum founded a vaudeville group, with whom he went on tour in the northeastern United States.

From January to March 1899 he was in the play A Romance of Athlone for the first time on Broadway in the theater. Following the success of the piece was again brought to the performance from January to March 1900. In the first decade of the 20th century Farnum stood in ten other pieces on the stage, so last April to June 1913 in the piece of Arizona.

1913 Farnum moved for a short time to Cuba, where he 1914 feature film Soldiers of Fortune turned, and thus made ​​his debut as a film actor. In The Squaw Man, directed by Cecil B. DeMille, who was also produced in 1914, Farnum laid the foundation for a career as a Western actor who was despite other film appearances, always associated with this genre. In 1916 he portrayed, among others in the eponymous film Davy Crockett. He played in 1926 in his 42nd and at the same time last feature film Another historical figure. In The Flaming Frontier, he was seen as General George Armstrong Custer.

Dustin Farnum was married three times. In 1898 he married Agnes Christine Johnston, from whom he divorced in 1908. 1909 he appeared with the actress Mary Cronwell down the aisle; the couple left after 15 years of marriage, in 1924, divorced. In the same year Farnum married the British actress Winifred Kingston, with which he in 1925 his only child, his daughter Dustin Farnum got. Dustin Farnum (1925-1983) was in the 1940s also briefly worked as an actress.

Dustin Farnum, who increasingly withdrew from public life in 1926, died at the age of 55 years, in July 1929 from kidney failure. It is located on the Silver Lake Cemetery, Bucksport, Hancock County, Maine, USA buried.

He is now dedicated a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
