DUT Racing

Delft University of Technology Racing Team, better known as DUT Racing is a Dutch Formula Student team from Delft. DUT Racing, which now already for over ten years at the world held Formula Student participates competition has become known for Formula Student with the development of lightweight race cars. DUT Racing had conquered with four victories at the Formula Student Germany and a win at the Formula Student UK to Summer 2013 first place in the world rankings.

  • 2.1 four-cylinder (2000-2002)

  • 2.4 E85 (2008-2010 )

Team Philosophy

Compilation

The DUT Racing team consists of about 75 members, who jointly construct a fast, efficient and reliable race car in almost a year. All team members are students of TU Delft, ranging from students through to PhD students. This DUT Racing is one of the largest and most diverse teams of students of TU Delft.

Training

The main objective of the project is training. In seminars and workshops, the team members knowledge and skills for the design of a racing car are taught each year. So give former team members their expertise and experience to the new guard on.

Competition history

Four-cylinder (2000-2002)

After the founding of the DUT Racing Team by two students of the TU Delft, the first racing adventure for the team with the participation began at the Formula Student UK competition in the summer of 2001. Along with a group of 20 students, the team built a competitive four-cylinder racing car with the was able to convince second place for newcomers.

The following year, the team with the same 4-cylinder concept took, but with an improved version of the previous car, and with a completely new racing car ( DUT02 ) again in this competition.

Lightweight (2003-2005)

2003 was an important year for the DUT Racing philosophy. The team developed a completely new design approach for the Formula Student car. Until then, all teams had basically used the allowed by the regulations, drive with the highest performance. According to 600 - cc four-cylinder motorcycle engines were usually used. In contrast, now the DUT Racing Team continued his revolutionary concept that emanated from a lighter engine with lower power (530 cc single-cylinder KTM ). On the basis of this philosophy of " less is more " constructed the team only a 130 kg heavy car and sat down as the competitors from whose cars brought at least 220 kilos. With this concept, the team won its first Design Award.

In subsequent years, the team continued to develop its light weight concept, which led to winning the first grand prize in 2006.

Results (2006-2007)

During the first six years, the team grew rapidly. With 60 team members in 2006 it was by far the greatest team of students of TU Delft.

The 2006 season should bring the first major success since recovered Design Award in 2003. By reaching the third place in the new Formula Student competition in demHockenheimring the team won for the first time on the podium.

The 2007 season once again brought a success with the second-place achievement in the World Championship at Silverstone FISITA ( Circuit).

E85 (2008-2010 )

In the 2008 season, the team underwent the 1- cylinder concept a redesign. After seven years, a gasoline-powered internal combustion engine had been used, the team was now looking for a new challenge with a greener, potentially faster fuel. This year, the Yamaha WR450F engine block on ethanol ( E85) was converted. The new concept was first used in a converted version of the DUT07 at FSAE Michigan competition for use (Michigan International Speedway ). However, due to a technical fault the endurance race could not be completed.

The generation of the DUT Racing Car ( DUT08, DUT09, DUT10 ) with ethanol engines was successful. In the 2006 season the team finished in second place in the Formula Student UK and took the victory at the Formula Student Germany. In the 2009 season, the team drove the car for the third time on a second place in England, and in 2010 the team won again the Formula Student Germany - title home.
