Dutch door

A Klöntür is a door, generally an external door / door, in which it is possible to open only the upper half of the door leaf and can be closed while the lower half.

The Klöntür was local practice in earlier centuries in rural areas. Whereas it was " chatting " with the door open with the neighbors or passers-by, remained a barrier for animals. The cattle could not escape ( barn door ) or penetrate ( house or hall door). In the Bergisch Land was the name " Klön and Kladdertür " usual. In case of sash top open but could come up light and smoke to escape from the kitchen or hallway.

Modern Klöntüren have the same functionality as their historical predecessors. A door is provided with a latch. The other door leaf can be connected or disconnected by a lever with the first.
