The Dwyer Arena ( officially: Robert and Concetta Dwyer Arena) is a sports arena in Lewiston, New York, USA. It is owned by the Niagara University and is used by the Hockey Teams of men and women, the Niagara Purple Eagles. The Arena has a spectator capacity of 2,100 and is located on the campus of the University.

History

The ice hockey arena was completed in 1996. Before the 1999-2000 season, the arena has been completely refurbished thanks to a donation from Bob and Connie Dwyer in the amount of 3 million U.S. dollars. Both had made ​​in 1965 at the University graduate. When renovating cabins, training rooms and the players lobby were brought up to date. In addition, separate entrances were created for the main and auxiliary rink, set up a ticket shop and a shop for ice hockey equipment.

In the summer of 2007, another seat block in the arena was built. As a result of this expansion, one capacity of 1,600 could be increased to 2,100 seats.

Events

In addition to the home games of the Niagara Purple Eagles are also held other Hockey events in the arena.

  • The arena was 5 - time host of the College Hockey America Ice Hockey Tournament; in the years 2002, 2008 and 2010 in the men's as well as 2004 and 2008 with the ladies.
  • Since 2008, the Buffalo Sabres Summer Development Camp takes place at the Dwyer Arena annually.
