Dying Gasp

The Dying Gasp signal ( in the figurative sense: " Last breath " ) is an electronic notification signal to a broadband network termination device.

This signal is then processed by a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), such as a DSL modem discontinued if it is switched off, or when a power failure occurs. In the Dying Gasp signal is a Data Layer signal at the provider- side network interface ( eg, a DSLAM port) can be evaluated.

This can be separated ( for example PPPoE ) Provider side without timeout during grid faults the connection, so after a quick rectification of the fault (eg with DSL re- syncs ) a new connection faster (and without trying multiple login) can be established.

The Dying Gasp signal is currently specified only for ADSL2 .
