Dymytrov

Dymytrow (Ukrainian Димитров; Russian Димитров / Dimitrov ) is a city of regional importance in eastern Ukraine with about 50,000 inhabitants ( 2013).

Geography

The city is located in the Donets Basin in the Donetsk oblast 52 km northwest of the Oblastzentrums Donetsk and 7 km northeast of the neighboring community Krasnoarmijsk. The village Switle (Ukrainian Світле ) with about 1,000 inhabitants, also belongs to the municipality.

Climate

The average temperature in the coldest month, January, -6.5 ° C and in July, the warmest month, at 20.5 ° C. The annual rainfall is 533 mm of precipitation.

History

Due to the existing coal reserves and proximity to the station today Krasnoarmijsk began in 1911 in the settlement Nowoekonomitschne ( Новоекономічне ) the mining of coal. Since 1916, located 5 km the Bergarbeitersiedlung Hrodiwskoho developed parallel south ( Гродівського ), which was from 1937 to 1957 Nowj Donbass ( Новый Донбасс ). After that, the place in honor of the Bulgarian politician Georgi Dimitrov (1882-1949) was renamed Dymytrow. 1965 Dymytrow received the status of a city. On March 6, 1972, both settlements were united, but now Nowoekonomitschne is again an independent urban-type settlement. Since 1990 Dymytrow has the status of an independent city.

During the Second World War the city was occupied on 22 October 1941, to September 8, 1943 by troops of the Wehrmacht.
