Dynamic Kernel Module Support

DKMS stands for Dynamic Kernel Module Support. Developed by Dell 2003 Framework for Linux to monitor whether additional kernel modules have been installed manually, and update the modules whenever a new / updated kernel is installed. So the new installation of the modules must not be performed manually when the kernel was updated.

So if you have additional drivers in the form of kernel modules manually installed, for example, they are usually after the first reboot after the kernel update is available again, because DKMS reviewed no later than during the boot process, if the modules for the loaded kernel are present and these otherwise possibly builds directly.

DKMS is in some Linux distributions such as Debian (version ' squeeze '), Ubuntu 8.10 ( and higher) or Fedora used.

It is Free Software released under the GNU General Public License ( GPL) v2.
