DYS (Band)

DYS is an American hardcore punk band from Boston. Together with SS Decontrol and Negative FX or later, Last Rights formed the band called " Boston Crew", a group that had a lot of influence on the spread of the straight edge movement.

Band History

Dave Smalley DYS founded in 1984 together with Jonathan Anastas. DYS stands for " Department of Youth Services ," an institution that cares for juvenile criminals. With Dave Collins on drums and Andy Strachan as a guitarist demo Wolfpack was recorded. After that, the band Andy Strachan joined as a permanent guitarist. On SS Decontrols Label Xclaim! released their album Brotherhood. It was one of the most important publications of the Boston hardcore punk scene. With Ross Luongo joined the group a second guitarist and the band began rather be guided by the speed metal. In 1985 the album DYS, which eventually also represented the last work of the band. The band broke up due to musical and personal differences. Dave Smalley then founded Dag Nasty.

Reunion 2010

Antidote vocalist Drew Stone was planning a 2010 documentary film about the Boston hardcore punk scene and asked Dave Smalley, to give a concert with DYS in this documentation. In fact, the reformed band has sold 1,100 tickets in no time. After the successful performance of the band The Mighty Mighty Bosstones was committed for their concert series Hometown Throwdown. Shortly afterwards, the live album More than Fashion: Live from the Gallery East Reunion, which includes the appearance of reunification. The band has now recorded some new songs, which are expected to be marketed through iTunes.
