Dysnectes brevis

Dysnectes brevis is a Protistenart, which belongs to the group of Carpediemonas -like organisms of fornicata and the only representative of its genus. The species was first described in 2007 based on collections made from the port of Yamakawa.

Features

Dysnectes brevis is semi-circular shaped to elongated, 9 to 14.5 micrometers long and 4.5 to 8 microns wide. It has two flagella and a lateral furrow. The front flagellum moves actively along the left side of the cell. The short posterior flagellum is two leaves and proposes within the furrow. The anterior root arises from the basal body.

Dysnectes brevis has a predatory lifestyle. It is usually associated with the substrate, occasionally slides or swims, however.

System

The species was first described by a Japanese research group based on different collections from the port of Yamakawa 2007. Dysnectes brevis is the only species of its genus. His bad schwimmerischen capabilities have led to its name, Dysnectes means " poor swimmer ".

It was described as basalstes taxon fornicata and understood within these several years as incertae sedis. In the meantime, however, it is provided together with the genus Carpediemonas and several newly discovered species in the formally undescribed group of Carpediemonas -like organisms.
