Dytryk

Dietrich (Polish Dytryk; * to 995; † after 1033 ) was Duke and co-regent of Poland to 1033, he was descended from the noble family of the Piast dynasty. .

Life

Dietrich was a son of the Polish prince Mieszko and thus a grandson of the Polish duke Mieszko I (reigned 960-992 ) and his second wife Oda of Haldensleben. Thus Dietrich was a first cousin of the reigning Polish king Mieszko II Lambert ( r. 1025-1034 ).

Dietrich came 1033 on court day of the Holy Roman Empire of Merseburg as pretender to the throne of Poland, and Lambert and his brother Otto was built by Emperor Conrad II in addition to Mieszko II used as co-regent in Poland. It is disputed among historians whether Dietrich had ever entered the territory of Poland. It can be assumed that he was able to hold at best on the Pomeranian periphery and thus outside of the actual poles. A few months after the establishment of the co-regent died Otto and Mieszko Lambert came back on as sole ruler.
