Dzeliwe of Swaziland

Inkhosikati LaShongwe Dzeliwe Shongwe (* 1927, † 2003) was from 21 September 1982 to August 9, 1983 Regent of Swaziland.

She was the wife of King Sobhuza II of Swaziland with whom she had one child, Prince Khuzulwandie Dlamini.

After the death of her husband in August 1982 Dzeliwe was appointed by the Royal Congress regent, Prince had to Makhosetive, the successor of the king, the age of 21 reached. The Liqoqo supported her reign, but soon there was disagreement with the Prime Minister, Mabandla Dlamini, and other members of Congress, which was led by Mfansibili Dlamini.

Mabandla Dlamini was replaced by Bhekimpi Dlamini, Queen Dzeliwe was against this dismissal, this led to its replacement as reigning queen by the mother of Makhosetive, Ntombi of Swaziland.

Prince Makhosetive was posted on April 25, 1986 under the name Mswati III. King of Swaziland crowned. He dismissed the Liqoqo, thus consolidating its position and organized the new government.

In May 1987, twelve people were convicted of sedition and treason of Queen Dzeliwe 1983. King Mswati has created a special court to condemn the removal of Queen Dzeliwe 1983. In that court, the defense lawyers had no right to legal representation. In March 1988, they were sentenced by the court, but was released again in July.

Between 1981 and 1985 remained Dzeliwe "Joint President" of the National Congress.
