Dziwna

The Dziwna ( German Dievenow ) is one of the three estuaries of the Oder, connecting sea channels as the Szczecin Lagoon with the Baltic Sea. It is in Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

The Dziwna is about 35 km long with strongly fluctuating width; it separates the island of Wolin ( Wollin ) in the west of the mainland Pomerania in the east. South of the town of Wolin ( Wollin ) in the ROW Peninsula (Eng. Roof ) it leaves the Szczecin Lagoon; at this point it is called Głęboki Nurt (Eng. " The deep train "). Further north, it forms a bulge that " Maade ", and then the Zalew Kamieński (Eng. " Camminer Bodden "); between the two lies the island Wyspa Chrząszczewska (German Gristow ). In the north it widens to Fritzower lake and then flows near Dziwnow ( Dievenow ) in the Baltic Sea. As the natural estuary silted heavily, an artificial mouth was created from 1898 to 1900.

At the estuary is located on the mainland side of the city Kamien Pomorski (German Pomerania ). The Dziwna is a popular sailing destination.

The other two estuaries of the Oder are the Peene river and the Swine.
