Dzūkija National Park

The National Park Dzūkija ( Lithuanian Dzūkijos nacionalinis parkas ), with an area of 58 519 ha of the largest national park in Lithuania. It is located in the south of the country in the region Dzūkija and borders on Belarus. The office is located in the village Marcinkonys.

In the park there are numerous other various nature reserves. The best known of this is the total reserve Čepkelių raistas, a coherent moorland, with an area of ​​11,227 hectares, the largest preserved in Lithuania. This area is under protection since 1993 under the Ramsar Convention. The reserve was launched in 1974, but founded the National Park until 1991.

13,004 ha of the core zone of the national park are certified as so-called " PAN Parks Wilderness Area " and belong to the Network of European Wildlife sanctuaries.
