E 11 road (United Arab Emirates)

The Sheikh Zayed Road (in Arabic شارع الشيخ زايد Shari ' al- Shaykh Zayid, DMG Sari ʿ aš - Shaykh Zāyid, formerly Trade Centre Road) is the largest and most famous street in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). The expressway has evolved in recent years to the main traffic artery of the desert city and connects nearly all parts of modern Dubai. It runs parallel to the coast line from the roundabout at the World Trade Centre to the border with the emirate of Abu Dhabi in the area of Jebel Ali. The use of the road is partial toll road.

Location and structure

The up to the border of Abu Dhabi 52 km long expressway has several very large transportation hubs. The Sheikh Zayed Road is six lanes wide at the widest point in each direction, plus of parallel side roads, on which is the holding (other than on the main road ) allowed. It is almost exclusively oriented to motorized traffic: For pedestrians, there are few bridges and underpasses to cross the street. In some places it is necessary for several kilometers to travel far to go just to the side of the road. This has improved with the partial opening of the Dubai Metro in September 2009. The runny on viaducts on the southern side almost the entire length of Sheikh Zayed Road Metro offers its breakpoints in each case one overpass for pedestrians.

The previously strong focus on motorized transport has brought it about that the Sheikh Zayed Road, despite their increasingly dense development did not develop real urban flair: the separate pages hardly communicate with each other, the pedestrian feels left alone and moved perforce in the strict environment of his high-rise environment.

History and Development

The then Trade Center Road called and largely undeveloped road was the late nineties and repaired after the former president of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan named. In episode mainly arose in the first section of the highway between interchanges one and two, most of the built in recent years, skyscrapers of Dubai like the Burj Khalifa or the Emirates Towers. In the course of more and more skyscrapers are built, which also connect to the new city center Downtown Dubai. The development of the road reminds us of the development of the Las Vegas Strip along which also spreads the life in the desert and in the original town center can always be meaningless.

Major shopping centers such as the Ibn Battuta Mall, Mall of the Emirates and the Dubai Marina Mall is located on Sheikh Zayed Road, as well as the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC ), Dubai Internet City (DIC) and Dubai Media City (DMC).
