E. C. Pielou

Evelyn Crystal Pielou ( born February 20, 1924) is a Canadian ecologist and professor emeritus of Mathematical Ecology at the University of Lethbridge (Alberta, Canada).

Life and work

Evelyn Crystal Pielou works as a scientist first for the Canadian Department of Forestry ( 1963-64 ) and the Canadian Department of Agriculture ( 1964-67 ). Later she became a professor of biology at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario (1968-1971) and at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia (1974-1981) and finally as Oil Sands Environmental Research Professor at the University of Lethbridge, Alberta ( 1981-1986 ).

Evelyn Pielou makes an important contribution in the statistical occupied ecology and modeling (modeling ) of natural systems. They developed the mathematical basis for Pielou Equality index, a now the main objects of investigation of Landscape Ecology and Conservation Biology. He describes the DC and unequal distribution of faunal species in an area. Today Evelyn Pielou lives in Comox (British Columbia, Canada) and writing books.
