E. St. Elmo Lewis

Elmo Lewis (Elias St. Elmo Lewis, * 1872, † 1948 ) was a strategist for advertising.

Life and work

Elmo (Erasmus, gr: the Gracious ) Lewis created in 1896 as one of the first scientific study on the use of serums and antitoxins. He questioned 5,000 American doctors for this project. Two years later, he developed the 113 years since current sales model AIDA. The acronym stands for its strategy of targeted art of dialogue management in marketing. He was co-founder and first president of the American Association of National Advertising. He was also a co-founder and president of the Adcraft Club of Detroit.

Lewis received national importance as a lecturer, author, teacher and head of books and seminars on the applications of advertising methods in different resorts. Furthermore, his interests were the employer - employee relationship. In 1911 he gave a lecture to the American Bankers Association, entitled: The Savings Idea and the People. According to Lewis opinion austerity measures form a national characteristic. They are an economic necessity and among the human principles. He pleaded for their conservation. He also worked as an author. Among his literary works counted 1919 Getting the Most Out of Business. In this widely used book Lewis explained his observations on the application of the scientific method of business process. This 485 -page work was published in the Ronald Press Company.

In 1951, Lewis was entered into the Advertising Hall of Fame.
