E. Wilder Farley

Ephraim Wilder Farley ( born August 29, 1817 in Newcastle, Lincoln County, Massachusetts, † April 3, 1880 ) was an American politician. From 1853 to 1855 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Wilder Farley was born in 1817 in Newcastle, which at that time was still part of Massachusetts, and is since 1820 part of the then newly created state of Maine. He attended the common schools and then to 1836 Bowdoin College in Brunswick. After a subsequent study of law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to practice in his new profession in Newcastle.

Politically, Farley member of the Whig party. In 1843 and again 1851-1853 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Maine. In 1852 he was in the third electoral district of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Robert Goodenow on March 4, 1853. Since he lost to Ebenezer Knowlton at the following elections in 1854, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1855. This was determined by the discussions leading to the Civil War.

In 1856, Farley was a member of the Senate of Maine. After he retired from politics. He died on 3 April 1880 in his native Newcastle.
