E.T.A.-Hoffmann-Theater

The ETA Hoffmann Theater in Bamberg is a town theater. It was founded in 1802 and was for a time domain of the later namesake ETA Hoffmann.

History of Theatre

1802 a building was rebuilt at the present Schiller Square to the theater. Musical director was in 1808 for a short time ETA Hoffmann. In 1937, the theater was closed, but was reopened in 1959. Only since 1970, it got its present name. Since the same year it is also a city theater.

After the theater after the Second World War had to resort to many alternative game sites throughout the city, in the late 1990s an international architectural competition for the renovation of the theater was proclaimed. The Hanover's architecture office Springer won that and was able to put in the following years his design that brought, among others, the studio theater in the same building as the Big House. 2003, the renovations were completed and the theater will be reopened.
