History

EA Canada is a large development studio of the American video game company Electronic Arts ( EA short ), which has several, not American based development studios around the world. EA, whose headquarters is located in Redwood City, California, EA Canada bought in 1991 for $ 11 million, which was still called Distinctive Software at the time, and its headquarters was located in Vancouver. At the time when EA bought Distinctive Software, these were known for some racing and sports computer games, which were published under the brand Accolade. Since the takeover and renaming to EA Canada, the studio developed mainly for the three brands EA EA Games, EA Sports and EA Sports BIG.

EA Black Box was founded by the purchase of Black Box Games as part of EA Canada. In March 2003 the studio to rent the top four floors of an office tower in downtown Vancouver decided to expand, as the existing space for the projects currently in development at that time was not sufficient. In 2005 it became an independent EA development studio. Since its founding until 2008 EA Black Box was the sole developer of the racing game series Need for Speed .

On December 19, 2008 Electronic Arts announced in a savings concept known that the studio by EA Black Box in Vancouver closed and would be moved to the studios in Burnaby. Moving from Black Box to be completed by June 2009.
