EAD-socket

An Ethernet connection box (EAD ) is a socket for Ethernet connection ( 10BASE2 10 Mbit / s). In the early coaxial cabling it is compared to the usual tees a betriebssicherere alternative dar. EAD are often duplicated for the connection of two computers, special EAD cables are always necessary.

The EAD was developed from the telephone socket for the phone, but the plug and socket are coded differently ("E" ) to avoid confusion. Internally, the EEAS to two connections for the usual in Thin Wire Ethernet coaxial cable. As with TAE, the opposite contacts of a socket unused touch. When plugging they are forced apart - it takes place more or less brief interruption of the bus - and connected via the plug and the associated dual coaxial cable back; the tee is integrated at the end of the BNC connector. Imperfect cans, plugs or cords can generate bus interruptions or standing waves.

Most installations were likely to be replaced over time by twisted pair cabling with 8P8C cans and faster and more reliable Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet.
